Whimsical Origin / Branding Story

Under the gas lamps of Prohibition Era New Orleans in the fog patrolled the constable. On lookout for revelers and others bearing sign that they may have been indulging in fun with a wink, a nod and a tipple.

Fun, as ever on the run from self-appointed decorum police,… and it was great civic embarrassment to have been publicly shamed for the crime of having fun.

The truly depraved voo-doo Shakers could be found departing the Absinthe House after even the carriages had retired, so were faced with attempting the sneak-walk past the authorities. There was no other way out…except to walk through Saint James Cemetery, which the constables permitted, since that was running a gauntlet of ghosts…and gators.

So began the gravestep — a saunter through the graveyard, picking up ‘yo feet so as to avoid the upstretched hands of those below who fo’ sho’ wanted to drag you under to the party in the Underground.
